Working Meetings

Today is TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday!)

However, I am not quite ready for tomorrow to be Friday or more accurately closer to the end of July.

For my fellow friends in Reslife, we all know that August is a crazy month for us filled with trainings and the students moving back in. For some of my friends that may have started even earlier as we have professional training at some universities and colleges that start as early as June.

When students leave at the end of May, there is a universal thought of the following two things that will happen in a Reslifer’s summer:

  1. Relaxation
  2. Get new work projects done for the year ahead

In all honesty, summer or more accurately the month of June is typically the best time to take a vacation, get married (I know of many married reslife folks who have anniversaries this time of the year), and enjoy the relaxed calendar as it is not cluttered with so many meetings.

However, what tends to happen, at least to me, is things whether (vacation or work projects) tend to get delayed and we get to this moment – the end of July and in just over a week you are back to your academic year grind with still a million and one things to do.

At this crunch time, one of the things that keep me motivated and moving are the working meetings that I do amongst my colleagues. This meeting simply is a time for us to be in a shared space on our computers working on similar or quite different tasks together. It is something about just being in the space together and knowing that you are all working hard that is both accountability-holding and supporting. It’s not only in the month of July that I do these but I try to do them throughout the year at least once a month if I can help it. I find that I tend tobe more productive and produce more quality work when I get to work amongst my peers and reflect and process in the moment of working.

For my friends in reslife, I would definitely recommend the occasional work group meeting with your peers when you take the moment to step out of your community to connect and collaborate with your colleagues.

Until next time,

I’m Rena in Reslife (akaCiggyG)
